It all starts with a vision, an idea. I transfer it on paper, polish the design and figure out the details. While I am drawing, I am already contemplating the cut and sewing process and sketch the handbag from all sides. Finally, I choose the colors.
At this stage, we find the right leather and cut out the individual sections. It is a meticulous task, since each section must be precise. The number of sections varies for each item, but can climb up to 30 for our most complex models.
Most of our products have textile lining and reinforcements, which make the product more durable and functional. These are cut predominantly by hand.
If we are making an embroidered item, this step requires work with a computer and an embroidery machine. I create the design on a computer and program it into the machine, which then transfers it onto the cut-out leather section. This process can take a few hours, depending on the complexity of the embroidery.
During this step, the lining is sewn together and the pockets, tags and logos are attached.
Coloring the edges of the cut-out sections requires a steady hand and lots of patience. We mix the colors ourselves to make sure they match each product perfectly.
At this stage, once the interior and individual sections are ready, we sew them all together. We attach the straps, handles, and all other leather components.
The final stage of production process includes the attachment of metal hardware. We do this work exclusively by hand, with the use of traditional tools.
Once a product is finished, we attach a tag to it, put it in a protective dust-bag and pack it in a cardboard box or paper bag with our logo. The product is then ready to meet its new owner.
